我永遠記得的禮物

Gift that I will always remember

Our most exchanged conversations were ‘leung/bu-leung’ which means ‘Are you feeling cold/not cold’.  It was because our visits to Taipei usually happened in winter during the Christmas period.  Every time I saw her first thing in the morning she checked whether I was feeling warm enough and also if I was eating properly.

Despite our language barrier, she was not hesitant to communicate.  It was her willingness to communicate that allowed me to create that connection. There was always the underlying message of wanting the best for me and mostly recognising me as a part of the family.

Through her kind gesture, she gave me a lot of strength and trust.   I am grateful for the gift that she gave me and I will treasure the gift knowing that our memories are the long connection that will last forever
